Xiao Yan’s praise of Suo Jing’s calligraphy
written in seal script: “Suddenly wind rises, and
birds fly away. A lonely pine tree on a snowy
summit with glaciers and strange rocks.” Xiao
praised Suo’s calligraphy as of top-tier quality.
I try to adopt the composition and rhythm of
the San Family Plate to present a primitive
and unadorned style like casted bronzeware,
capturing the flying away movement of birds,
creating the twisting dynamics of glacier and
strange rocks, and creating a skipping visuality
like the lonely pine tree on a snowy summit.
