Taiwan This print is an overview of human history from the mysterious beginning of our species
2016 Selected Artist, National Taiwan through our mysterious future. It is divided vertically into four epochs. There are two
Museum of Fine Arts Taichung intersecting axes, the downward one representing our violent tendencies and the upward
International Print one representing our creative tendencies. Combined these axes are reminiscent of a strand
of DNA and also the symbol of in�inity. The duality of humanity is reinforced both via
the content and the technique of black and white woodcut, which uses a simple binary
language carved and uncarved shapes to depict a vast array of complex spaces and forms.
