                                                                                                                                              類 膠 彩
The 28 th Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition saw more entries in the Glue Color Painting category than previous years, receiving a total of 77 entries (including
two from overseas). After preliminary review by jury members CHIEN Chin-Ching, LEE Chen-Hui, LIN Pi-Chiang, HUANG Shih-Chun, and myself,
eleven entries were selected for the final review of physical works. The competition was fierce as all entries displayed exceptional artistic qualities, and
after six rounds of voting, the jury was finally able to name the winners of the top three prizes and two Award of Merit winners, as well as six selected
works, which are all quality works that display unique styles and strengths, making the judgement rather difficult.
First Prize winner is "Spring Funeral" by CHEN Cai-Yu. The artist expresses sophisticated emotions and likes to depict embracing people or things,
imagining the symbols of life and death in the dream and expressing own thoughts and a sad atmosphere. "Spring Funeral" uses blurry grey and blue
tones to create the scene of a ditch by the road, and hints the season with hanging white flowers. This is a work of profound depth that embodies self-
healing, leaving viewers sufficient room for imagination.
Second Prize winner is "We Continue to Exist Under the Unchanging Expanse of the Same Sky" by LEE Shu-Xian. The work adopts the spatial
concept of traditional Oriental scroll, but the painting is cut into two pieces, where one is placed above the other. The author compares herself to a
crocodile among people, looking over a world far away. She also uses blue and purple tones to create a sense of loneliness. She achieves outstanding
visual effects for the textures of the light in the night scene and the spiritual space, demonstrating brilliant creativity.
Third Prize winner is LIN Jyu-Jhen's "Skimming Over the Surface," which presents radiant and robust reflections on the surface of water. The artist Glue Color Painting
excels in this kind of themes, and this work features beautiful warm colors to express the reflections of trees and changing light and shadows on a lotus
pond, creating powerful visual tensions; the dragonflies hidden within further add vibrancy to the painting, and the artist demonstrates skillful use of
pigments, manifesting powerful and full colors.
There are two Award of Merit winners: "Hakoniwa's Cross" by TU Siang-Yi combines three-dimensional cross with flat portrait to symbolize death
and rebirth. The young girl's face and the patterns on her dress blend ingeniously into the cross, presenting the solemn value of life. Another winner is
"Day and Night – Night" by SU Tzu-Hsiang, which depicts the differences between day and night in daily life as observed by the author; this one depicts
the streets at night, exuding a hint of loneliness. The technique through which the author captures the details in the painting is truly impressive.
All the six selected works exhibit unique features, and one of them is "Transporter" from Mongolia, which is an impressive work that features radiant
and vibrant colors with a touch of child-like innocence. It surely presents a different look and style compared to the works of local artists of Taiwan.
The education and artistic development of glue color painting in Taiwan has become increasingly popular over the past few decades. In terms of style
and creative philosophy, the influences of Western modern artistic concepts have grown stronger. Some entries preserve the features of Japanese gouache
painting, while also incorporating elements of classical Chinese painting; however, more and more new-generation artists faithfully express own feelings
about life and reflect local colors of Taiwan. This rich quality of diverse and free thinking is the best interpretation of Taiwan's artistic spirit.
