Description
Imitating Northern Wei stone tablets, I
realize that standard and clerical scripts share
the same origin through various epitaphs.
Usually, small-character standard script
rarely exhibits the style of Northern Wei
stone tablets; for this work, I primarily used
the style of the “Zhang Hei-Nu” epitaph,
combining with bamboo-slip seal script to
present free-willed and relaxed brushstrokes
and structure. On the outside, I used running
script in lighter ink for the base, presenting
a three-dimensional charm of ink through
varied ink colors and speed in the elegant
and delicate texture of silk. I hoped that I
could balance the literary and calligraphic
aspects to create an innovative work that also
adheres to traditional rules.
