Description
The work is inspired by the Amis Sun God
Malataw. Malataw and the guardian spirits of
animals enter a race to catch the sun. Like wind,
they leap over rivers and lakes, and take longs
strides across summits; although the clouded
leopard and sambar deer behind Malataw are
fast and agile, they are obvious no match to the
Sun God.
The artist depicts Malataw as an outgoing young
man with a radiant smile, just like Taiwan’s
indigenous people, who are optimistic and
relentless, symbolizing the brave spirit of Taiwan
that marches forward through hardships.
