Juror's Statement, Water Color Painting Category CHIEH Chia-Chu
Since the application stage started this April, a total of 180 watercolor artworks were submitted, with 9 works from overseas, including artists from
Mongolia, the Philippines, Poland, and Ecuador. In the rigorous preliminary review on May 2, 2021, 27 works were selected to participate in the nal review,
24 of which originals were then received. However, the last stage was postponed several times due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Thanks to the e orts and
cooperation of jurors, the nal review was held on July 6, 2021 to determine the top three winners, Award of Merit recipients, and shortlisted works.
These winning works stood out from the 180 submissions and were selected by jurors after the two reviews. Each of them is excellent and one-of-a-kind.
Below is a brief introduction about the winners of the top three prizes and the Awards of Merit.
The First Prize winner is ZHONG Zi-Yi's The foggy air was full of chill menace, which mirrors the artist's mood. It is an exceptional work that exhibits masterful
techniques, a well-created atmosphere, and a clever choice of frame. The Second Prize recipient is Weightless Forest at Daybreak by LIAO Min-Ju. The main
character in the painting is splendidly portrayed, while the background evokes unique imagery. The Third Prize winner is WANG Shao-Fu's Zhua zhou, a
childhood-themed work that expresses the wish for a child to grow up happily.
This year, four works were given the Award of Merit, namely: Walking in the snow with old friends by TANG Shuang-Chin, a painting with a well-presented
atmosphere; Taiwan intersect by HO Chia-Lien, a unique work that alludes to current real-world situations using metaphoric imagery; Thousands of miles of
footsteps bloom in the heart by CHANG Chin-Chung, which traces back the artist's life by portraying shoes in the cabinet, a work with great originality and
excellent technique; and Lease of life by CHANG Hong-Yu, displaying remarkable skills and an impressive main theme.
From October 30 to November 17, 2021, this year's prize-winning artworks will be exhibited at the Dadun Cultural Center. To those who have a passion for
