Where is “home”? The work is based on the
rental apartment memory of young people
working in Taiwan away from home. Narrow
and similar staircases can be found in old
buildings in the city, and the units may have
been renovated by different owners, but
the public stairways have kept the traces
of time, marking the only pathway home.
Through microscopic sculpture, I peel
off the stairways in memories, and use a
continuous track to play the sounds of steps
and opening and closing of steel doors in
old apartments as the ambience sound, in
an attempt to respond to contemporary
urban dwellers’ returning home.
