The 26-year-old Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition has become an important stage for contemporary artists to
compete, share, and learn from each other. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, a total of 1,507 artworks from 25
countries were submitted this year, 179 more than last year, yet a new record high. The enthusiastic participation
of artists from around the world has enabled Taiwan to gain international visibility.
The submission, nal review, and Da Dun Prize review stages took place amid the local Covid-19 outbreak
in mid-May, so the Cultural A airs Bureau re-arranged the tasks into di erent periods and separate areas while
facilities were sanitized at all times to ensure the successful implementation of all various activities. Finally, 197
artworks were chosen after rigorous assessment. Some outstanding entries came from other countries, such as
Spain, Japan, and Mongolia. The Cultural A airs Bureau did not spare e orts to ensure the safety of artists, jurors,
and other sta , making possible the successful implementation of this international arts event, even during the
pandemic.
Apart from response to the Covid-19 crisis, the Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition has also kept pace with the times
and fully leveraged the Internet and other assets of the digital era. It is the second year since the exhibition
started accepting physical and digital submissions. With a significant increase of 530 from the previous year,
the total number of online applications reached 1,057 this year. The Cultural A airs Bureau conducted rolling
reviews to make adjustments and simplify online application. Artists could choose to apply through the devices
they felt most suitable or familiar with, including mobile phones and tablets. This exibility proved particularly
valuable during the pandemic, since foreign artists could apply online, even if their country's mail services
were suspended. The convenient application methods devised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau increased the
participation of and exchange between artists, and ensured the continuous growth of the Da Dun Fine Arts
Exhibition in this ever-changing world.
Art pieces in the 26th Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition exhibit unparalleled, masterful realistic techniques. In
addition, there are those more teasing and lovely, or simply refreshing to see. Also noteworthy are works that
reflect on real life issues, such as climate change, the global pandemic, and water rationing in Taiwan. From
October 30, 2021 to November 17, 2021, art lovers are welcome to visit the Dadun Cultural Center to view the
wonderful exhibition of this year's prize-winning artworks.
