Mayor's Preface
With a rich cultural background, Taichung City has long been renowned as a city of culture. In recent years,
Taichung City Government has made vigorous efforts to organize a range of artistic and cultural activities,
familiarizing citizens with local history through arts events while enhancing the city's international pro le using
marketing strategies. By doing so, the development of art in Taichung has been given ever-fresh impetus like an
in nite river.
From a local fine arts event to an iconic official exhibition of international scale, the Da Dun Fine Arts
Exhibition of Taichung City has accumulated considerable energy in the past 26 years, which have been full of
rewards and challenges. The Covid-19 outbreak in Taiwan this year did not dampen the passion of artists, but
prompted the creation of more works. A total of 1,507 artworks were submitted, 179 more compared to last year,
and 115 of which came from overseas, amounting to entries from 25 countries in total. Here I must express my
heartfelt admiration to all the participants for their powerful and persistent creativity.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Taichung City Government followed pandemic response regulations and
arranged the reviews in several di erent batches, periods, and areas. Prizes have been awarded to 197 artists,
including a Second-Prize winner from Spain and a Third-Prize winner from Japan. Every year, participants from
all around the world compete and exchange with each other through this platform, sparking creativity and
bettering their techniques in various media. I would like to thank them for participating in this visual feast and
promoting artistic progress in Taichung.
Taichung City Government has spent lot of e orts to make Taichung into an arts capital, fostering artistic
and cultural activities that include the under-construction Taichung Green Museumbrary, designed by Pritzker
Architecture Prize laureates Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, which will serve as not only a venue for artists
to share and learn but also an urban forest where citizens can appreciate art and literature. In doing so, Taichung
City is injecting fresh energy into contemporary art.
From October 30 to November 17, prize-winning artworks from the 26th Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition will be
showcased at the Dadun Cultural Center. Art lovers are welcome to pay a visit and marvel at the select art pieces.
Mayor, Taichung City
