CHEN Kai-Jing

Description
Using the gold relief technique of lacquer art, I
create the images on the back of the character
like tattooing. In Akutagawa Ryunosuke’s
novel, the spider’s thread lowered from Heaven
connects an opportunity of conversion between
good and evil: it is sturdy enough to withstand
the weight of all those wanting to get out of
Hell; it can also snap and disappear suddenly
when an evil idea arises. The viewer beyond the
painting will also see own images reflected in
the mirror-like darkness, as if contrasting with
the cool and refreshing and burning scenes in
the painting.
