—A City for Happiness
Coloring Taichung

Taichung is as graceful as an attractive poem, beautiful as a picture, and romantic as prancing blossoms on a musical score, making it
no wonder that it has become a top destination for living and visiting in Taiwan. CNN has recognized Taichung as Taiwan's most livable
City. With its steady growth of residents, Taichung has recently become Taiwan's second-largest city in terms of population size. This is a
city full of joy, felicitous atmosphere and stunning cultural elements. If you know how to enjoy life, come to Taichung and be prepared to
fall in love with it.

Taichung certainly has its own rich history and culture. Since the Pingpu indigenous tribes and later Han Chinese settlers arrivals, this
area has given birth to a wide spectrum of cultures, including Niumatou, Fantzuyuan, Litoudian, Dadunjie, Daliyi and Azhaowu cultures.
Various cultures from different periods of time can be found perhaps just round the corners where you walk by.
Further to the above, the city has a spectacular art development history. Taichung is lucky to be home of internationally acclaimed
artists such as LIAO Chi-Chun, YEN Shui-Long, YANG Chi-Tong, LI Shih-Chiao, YEH Huo-Cheng, CHEN Hui-Kun, and Richard LIN.
These masters' restless efforts have laid a solid foundation for artistic growth in Taichung. The seeds they sowed have now blossomed,
making this city an important center for Taiwan's arts scene and an internationally-renowned cultural metropolis.
The Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City, acclaimed and enjoyed by local and international art lovers, and it has become the
most significant symbols of Taichung's active role on the international art stage. The event is planned and organized by Cultural Affairs

Bureau of Taichung City Government, this year marks its proud 22 year anniversary. Since its inception, this event has attracted a total of
27,797 outstanding artists from different countries to present their masterpieces to share the audience who walks in.
For this year's exhibition, we broadly invited international artists to submit their work. We received a large number of entries, which
was beyond expectation. After a careful and long deliberation and selection process by 55 juries, 200 exceptional works were selected. These
award-winning pieces were displayed and the artists were recognized at a grand awards ceremony.
The support and participation of artists worldwide makes Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung possible. We are also grateful
for the veteran professionals and scholars in each art field who served as jurors and provided fair and constructive comments. The
administrative team and volunteers who have been working behind the scenes over the years leading up to the exhibition were also
indispensable.

Thanks to all of your commitment and collaboration, the Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition has been a great success year after year. And,
as we approach the end of this year's successful exhibition, I would like to express my utmost gratitude to everyone who made this possible.

The artists who participated in the Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City have decorated our city and expressed its spirit with
both rational lines, making Taichung's beauty even more harmonious and accessible. We cordially invite you to savor and enjoy the 2017 Da
Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City, and also the upcoming 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition.
