e Diverse Creation behind ‘Da Dun Prize’
It is a varied mix of places and races that nurtures unique cultural experiences and cultivates distinct artistic movements. The
Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City encourages the spirit of original creativity, presenting contemporary facets of art
and society. Moreover, in the face of changing times and cultural upheavals, the Exhibition actively builds international artistic
and cultural dialogues, embracing diverse forms of art. This makes it a global art stage and a new star in the artistic world.
th
Last year was Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City's 20 anniversary, as this event has matured like a youthful,
st
extraordinary man filled with an artistic spirit and excelling to greater heights in many aspects. The 21 Da Dun Fine Arts
Exhibition of Taichung City continues this tradition and, divided into 11 categories, collected 1,738 submissions from 33
countries, including China, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Singapore, India, Russia, Canada, New Zealand,
Serbia, Malaysia, Poland, Vietnam and Australia, just to name a few. Followed by two selection rounds conducted by 55 experts
and jurors, 224 outstanding works won awards, including 15 short-listings and Awards of Merit earned by international artists.
The entire process can be regarded as very comprehensive and quite remarkable.
In addition, a recipient of the Da Dun Prize is normally selected from among First Prizes winners in the 11 categories
via a careful judging process. However, this year only 10 First Prize winners will vie for this honor because the winner in the
Oil Painting category failed to submit three works for reference. By tradition, the winners will remain secret until the award
ceremony, when the Da Dun Prize recipients will be honored with a gold award and offered the warmest congratulations.
The Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City is an assemblage of national and international artists and this year's
submissions cover a broad spectrum of styles and techniques, from the traditional, realistic, freehand and abstract, to the surreal,
symbolic and metaphorical. Subjects and themes vary as well, from daily experiences and hot issues to the introspection,
appreciation for life, concern about the environment, the mission of preserving cultural assets via aboriginal totems, and
illusionary fictional scenes. Every artist expresses their independent thinking and understandings that inspire a pursuit of
enduring beauty and—through years of effort—a wealth of abundant creations that shine in the arts world. Each phase of
progress represents an unforgettable record of life.
Like the progress of the four seasons, years of accumulated art and culture preserve and provide an important context and
eternal aesthetic beauty that shines forever, like the sun. From November 12 to 30, the Taichung City Dadun Cultural Center
will display all prize-winning works. We sincerely invite all art lovers to visit, enjoy and appreciate these outstanding, brilliant
creations, sharing in a magnificent visual artistic feast.
