Mayor’s Statement

Cultural Wings for the World

As a melting pot for a mix of local characteristics in its mountains, coastal regions, outer districts and urban areas, Taichung City
has developed very diverse cultural features. Historic buildings, relics of the past, natural scenery and other assets have been well

protected and preserved to offer a rich accumulation of both visual and abstract cultural assets that have filled the city with an artistic
ambience. These cultural and artistic riches have bathed residents in Taichung's beauty, which has also earned growing attention and
recognition on the global stage.

These accumulated forms of art and culture have given this city the cultural wealth that it possesses today. Since its beginnings in
1996, Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City has gone through 21 years of experience and witnessed numerous historical and
cultural achievements along the way, providing artists with a multi-faceted, open setting for creativity and a platform for deepening
global dialogues so that participants can look outwards to the world and the future. Artists' diligent creations and participation in the Da
Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City for over 20 years has had an invigorating effect, cultivating many professional artists and art
students, while also continuously adding to the sheen of Taichung's artistic power and charisma and expressing the tremendous power
for art to everyone.

It certainly remains a challenging task to create. Every artist sows the seeds of their dreams onto the soil of creativity in the hope
st
of a rich artistic harvest of self-expression. The 21 Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City collected 1,738 submissions from
33 countries and regions, including 143 works submitted by foreign artists in a demonstration of this exhibition's successful global
reach and recognition. This can be credited to the preparation committee, judging committees, specialists and unceasing efforts by
all participants. I would like to thank each of you with the sincerest appreciation! The determination of every participant to reach
greater heights underlines unstoppable growth of the arts and creation, whose progress leaves precious footprints and erects important
milestones. It is my desire to congratulate all participants and prize-winners for your enduring endeavors and breakthroughs in art.

Art expresses the power of mind and plays a role in preserving our culture for the ages. While fi erce global economic competition

continues to take place, the harmony enjoyed in the fields of art and culture is everlasting. I am glad to hear that the Dadun Cultural

Center will be hosting a grand exhibition from November 12 to 30 of 224 outstanding artworks from the 21 Da Dun Fine Arts
Exhibition of Taichung City. I sincerely invite all those who love art to visit and share in this permanent feast of Da Dun aesthetics,

with the expectation that“art beyond borders”will give every participant a sense of honor and warmth.
