The Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City has been held annually since 1996 and provides a platform for artists to
showcase their artworks and techniques. In the beginning, most of artists joining the exhibition were from the local area, so it was
considered a local event. In 1999, however, the Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition was transformed into a national art exhibition. Since
2002, it has increasingly expanded its scale to become an international art exhibition and we have received submissions from all over
the world, making it an important large-scale government-organized art competition. Thus, I believe this international event will
increasingly enrich the culture of Taichung City.

The 19 Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City includes a total of 11 categories-crafts, sculpture, digital arts,
photography, printmaking, water color painting, oil painting, glue color painting (gouache), seal engraving, calligraphy and ink wash
painting. The exhibition received a total of 1,347 artwork entries from 27 countries, and a review of submissions was carried out
by 55 professional jurors in two stages. A total of 191 submitted works, including 12 from abroad, received awards. Among all the
artworks, there are two pieces that especially illustrate how the Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City has effectively grown
into an international art exhibition. These two works were respectively submitted by New Zealand artist Lucas K. Doolan, who won
the First Prize in photography, and Malaysian artist LIM Bee-Tat, who won an Award of Merit in water color painting.

The artists who participated this year faced fierce competition, with the subjects being diverse and combining the traditional and
innovative, and artwork styles including realistic, impressionistic, fantasy and abstract. While viewing these works, you can see that
artists put a lot of work into framework, forms and techniques, and each piece has deep meaning that inspires viewers to reflection.

Regarding the judging process, each juror used their expertise to carefully scrutinize every entry. The five winners of the Da

Dun Prize-the highest honor of the Da Dun Art Exhibition-will be awarded after a strict selection process. Outstanding artworks will
be displayed at the Da Dun Cultural Center from November 1,2014 and the Taichung City Government wholeheartedly welcomes art
lovers to visit this city and the Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition.

The 19 Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City is based on principles such as fairness and openness. Each step in the
process, from reviewing proposals, receiving and reviewing submitted works and the exhibition, right through to staging the awards
ceremony and producing a catalogue, was seriously and meticulously supervised by our team and the jurors. I believe the exhibition
will be a memorable, poignant experience for every participant and I am looking forward to ever-growing numbers of fantastic
                  artworks received in the future.

The Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City has become a truly iconic event that can develop Taichung's art and culture
further while also spotlighting the characteristics and charm of Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition. In such ways, this activity will ensure
that an artistic atmosphere permeates every corner of Taichung City.
