Description
Numerous great seal-engraving teachers have been encouraging and pointed me in the
right direction since I picked up this art practice during my time in university. I'm deeply
enamored with calligraphy and carving. The styles included in this creation embody a font
used during the Han dynasty, a red-character style from CHEN Julai's calligraphy writing,
and a Wan School style from WU Rangzhi's writing. I personally have immense admiration
for the Commandment Book with a white-character style from the Wan School. Calligraphy
and seal engraving art forms are closely related. After practicing oracle and Chinese
bronze inscription fonts, I've tried to apply my calligraphy writing to seals. In addition, I
have developed a new interest in decorated seal knobs. It's come to my attention that the
bird-work script style presents seal knobs quite well with their delicateness. I believe the
inclusion of seal knobs in the seal engraving will complement this ancient form, serving as
210 a perfect combination that fully integrates calligraphy, seal engraving and seal styling.
