Center Mountain and Sea View”s inspired by well-known jade pieces known as“ruyi”meaning
blessing”or“wish”). It presents a traditional style of craftsmanship that combines new
and old techniques. For example, the work’s main body is created with tin and gold-like
materials. The use of tin-art is gradually declining within Taiwanese craft-art circles and
Yao uses these skills to not only convey her ideas, but also remind us that fewer and fewer
people have knowledge of this handicraft technique.
