The Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City is a remarkable event held annually. Over 18 years, participating artists have
contributed their efforts in support of the exhibition, allowing it to take place year after year. While this event focused on the works
of Taichung residents for its first three years, it was opened to all Taiwanese artists in the fourth year, thereby becoming a national
Taiwanese art competition and exhibition. In its seventh year, the competition began to receive works submitted by artists overseas
and, since then, has served as a platform for all artists to showcase their ideas and talent.

The 18 Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City includes a total of 11 categories crafts, sculpture, digital arts,
photography, printmaking, water color painting, oil painting, glue color painting (gouache), seal engraving, calligraphy and ink
wash painting. The exhibition received a total of 1,739 pieces from 34 countries and a review of submissions was carried out by
55 professional jurors in two stages. A total of 226 submitted works, including 14 from abroad, received awards. Surprisingly, the
number of international submissions this year hit a record high, making it clear that this event is well on its way to becoming an
international showcase and is gaining a global reputation.
This year s exhibition will take place in late October at the Taichung City Dadun Cultural Center and I believe it will be
amazing. We have received a number of fantastic works in which we have discovered a variety of subjects. For example, submissions
have included realism, abstract and emotionally-reflective styles that added to depth to all of the candidate works. Artists not only
excelled in presenting their works but also in applying innovative skills and techniques. This made it especially challenging for the
jurors to settle on award winners, which were only selected after several serious reviews during the course of the competition. For all
of these reasons, I believe the exhibition will be outstanding.

Fine Arts Exhibitions of Taichung City. A photography category work also received the Da Dun Prize once during the 10 Da Dun
Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City. A total of 82 candidates have been recipients of the Da Dun Prize and this year will see the
prize awarded to five more outstanding candidates.

The 18 Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City is based on principles such as fairness and openness. Each step in the
process, from reviewing proposals, receiving and reviewing submitted works and the exhibition, right through to staging the awards
ceremony and producing a catalogue, was seriously and meticulously supervised by our team and the jurors. I believe the exhibition
will be a memorable, poignant experience for every participant and it is my hope that we will continue to receive an ever-growing
number of fantastic artworks. The Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City has become a truly iconic event that has helped
develop Taichung s art and culture and continues to be a very positive influence to the city.
