Mayor's Preface
Taichung has earned the reputation of being a “Cultural City” with the rich cultural heritages accumulated over the
years. This March, the Preparatory Office of Taichung Art Museum was officially established, and at the end of next year,
the Taichung Green Museumbrary will be completed and inaugurated. All these efforts demonstrate that Taichung's
determination and proactiveness to continually promote arts and cultural activities. Through the effort of the city
and support of all sectors over the past year, the total prize money of Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition this year has been
significantly increased from NTD 3.86 million to NTD 5.69 million to further reward and encourage outstanding artists,
hoping to provide brilliant creative talents the most substantial help.
Taichung City Government has long continually promoted Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition. Since its inauguration in 1996,
the exhibition has been gradually growing from a local art exhibition, a national contest, to ultimately an international
event that calls for global entries. Through years of dedication and effort, Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition has already become
the best government-organized art exhibition in Taiwan that has the highest total prize money, largest scope of call for
entries, and most received submissions, as well as the most iconic and reputable art contest recognized by all participants.
This year, the exhibition received 1,681 submissions from around the world by participants from 21 countries or regions,
including Japan, Mongolia, Malaysia, U.S., and India. Eventually, 176 entries have emerged from fierce competitions, and
each and every prize-winning work has been selected by the jurors through meticulous evaluation process, showcasing
every prize-winning artist's creative prowess perfected through unwavering dedication and refinement.
With her work “55 Dress Up No. 3”, Ms. TUNG Chuen-Yu won her second First Prize in Printmaking in a row at the 28 th
and 29 th Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition. “55 Dress Up No. 3” expresses that people go through different identities and roles
in life, and constantly learn, grow, and transform through dressing up. The beauty of dressing up lies in embracing and
valuing diversity, and everyone is capable of thriving and shining bright in the world of dressing up.
Art is capable of cultivating the mind and expressing thoughts and emotions. Many works are inspired by artists’ own
experiences of growing up and concerns for society. With artists, collectors, and all art loving friends by our sides, Da Dun
Fine Arts Exhibition will soon be celebrating its 30 th anniversary. In the future, we will continually fulfill our roles as an
important driver and bridge of arts, and work together with artists to jointly construct a wonderful artistic and cultural
environment.
