Description
The work originates from the helplessness after
experience the social turbulences of Hong Kong in
2019. I was in dire need to find a way to convert
my emotions. I added to the graphite background
irregular lines to break the darkness and create
fictional spaces; I referenced the original stage in
John Rawls’s veil of ignorance and Lacan’s concepts
of self-formation and the mirror stage, to create
a “simulacrum” of my own emotions and state of
mind, creating a reflective relationship for objective
self-observation. “Gaze” is bilateral to viewing
of work, and gazing is the reflective relationship
between simulacrum and audience; after audience
see the simulacrum, the representation of
simulacrum as the object is constructed, breaking
away from the author to become an independent
individual.
