Description
Taiwan has many traditional industries, like solar incense coils, which can be found both at home or in
temples. Incense coils are placed on square meshes, and they are all laid out on the ground; sun-drying
requires some luck, as it cannot be done if the weather is bad. When the incense coils are being sun-
dried, workers must regularly inspect and check the dryness. Every aspect shows how people are still
working hard in the dif�icult traditional industry; they rely on their own hands and labor. The people
working in industries that preserve traditions are mostly middle-aged or older workers, and they are
being replaced by migrant workers. Slashing the prices and engaging in a price war with own people are
reasons why many traditional industries are dying in Taiwan.
