Description
This work combines woodcraft and a sculpture of
a girl to represent deep thoughts about nature and
human beings. The artist believes that civilization
has had a huge impact on nature, damaging the
balance between the environment and human
civilization. Camphor and Phoebe kwangsiensis
are the main materials utilized in this work. The
swimming girl, made with Phoebe kwangsiensis,
is looking towards the top of the tree, suggesting
that she is thinking about nature and the origins of
life. The artist would like to present the sensibility
of humans through his work. Therefore, even the
wood color was chosen to appeal to humans’
sentimental side. Another part of the work is made
from camphor, which is often applied to architecture
and represents the development of human
civilization. Lin has kept parts of the wood in their
natural state to convey his respect for nature.
